Governance model

NORBRAIN governance model

An illustration of the governance model of NORBRAIN4 consisting of steering board, scientific advisory board, management group (consisting of executive board and seven work packages). The Norwegian 7T MR Center and EBRAINS Norway are organized as separate operational centres.

Steering Board

The NORBRAIN steering board is the highest decision body of the consortium. It consists of one representative from each partner at a strategic decision level (Deans of involved Faculties). The Board meets once a year and is responsible for changes in investment and project strategy. The Board is used as a conflict solver in case of disagreements. It takes strategic decisions about national and international co-operations.

Management Board

The Management Board (MB) is the executive unit of NORBRAIN and consists of Executive Board (EB) and WP leaders. The EB consists of the Scientific Director (Moser), the Administrative Director (Foss) and the local coordinator of each infrastructure node (Leergaard, Bramham). The EB has bimonthly meetings, with the NORBRAIN coordinator as secretary. MB is responsible for implementing SB decisions, follows up progress and deliveries, and meets twice a year. 

Work packages

Work package (WP) leaders are responsible for progress and deliverables of their respective WPs. 

WP leaders are:

  • Bjarne Foss, NTNU (Professor and administrative director of Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience (KISN); managing director of NORBRAIN)
  • May-Britt Moser, NTNU (Professor, group leader, and scientific director of KISN; Director of Centre for Algorithms in the Cortex)
  • Weijian Zong, NTNU (Associate professor and group leader of Neurophotonics group, KISN)
  • Trygve Leergaard, UiO (Professor and group leader of NeSys, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences; node leader of EBRAINS Norway)
  • Clive Bramham, UiB (Professor and head of Synaptic Plasticity Research Group, Department of Biomedicine)
  • Pål Erik Goa, NTNU (Professor and manager of Norwegian 7T MR Center)

Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) advises biannually regarding strategic development, implementation, upgrades, and management of the infrastructure. The SAB consists of 4 of the world’s leading scientists in neuroscience and neuroscience technology, all with considerable experience in research management.

User involvement

There will be held user meetings to obtain feedback from the broad spectrum of external and internal users. User satisfaction surveys will be conducted in addition.
